Newsletter from Tingara Management Committee (February 2012)

Hello All Tingara Members,  The Management Committee of Tingara Netball Club would like to extend a warm welcome to all our members for the 2012 season.

A reminder of 2 very important dates for Tingara in the next few days:
  • Special Uniform Open Night - Wednesday 8 February 2012 from 4pm to 7pm at 20 Davenport Road Booragoon. Please note that:
    • The sizing of the new uniform differs from the old one and therefore it would be prudent if all Club members try on the new skirts and tops to ensure the correct sizes are ordered.
    • Only pre-paid orders, cheques and money orders will be accepted at the Uniform Open Night (ie no cash).
  • Club registration day on Sunday 12 February 2012 at Brentwood Primary School from 10am to 12 noon.  Please note that the registration day this year will be held at the area near the training courts (not at the verandah near the school hall as it was last year)
Please refer to the registration pack on the Club website for relevant forms and all registration information.  To those members who will make a donation to cover the cost of new bibs and netballs, your contributions will be much appreciated.

It is very important to note that FNA has put a cap on the number of teams all affiliated clubs can register for competition this year.  This effectively means that all clubs (including Tingara) will need to closely monitor its registration numbers and may have to turn away prospective players if the numbers get too high.  Accordingly, Tingara is adopting a 1st come 1st served policy.  It is in everyone’s interest to ensure that you register in a timely manner. There will be no guarantee that late registrations will be accepted.

Please note that this year we are ordering netballs with “Tingara Netball Club” printed on them.  They are good quality netballs and we have an opportunity of selling them to interested Club members at a cost of $30.  If you are interested, you can order and pay for these balls on registration day.  The Club will then make a bulk order for the new balls and distribute them once we have received them.

A brief overview of the timetable for the 2012 season follows (please refer to the registration pack for further details):
  • grading dates – 27, 28 & 29 February and 5,6 & 7 March
  • 1st training starts – 19, 20 & 21 March
  • season commences  -  28 April
  • season byes – 2 June,  7, 14 & 21 July
  • finals series –  8, 15 & 22 September
  • Tingara team windups – dates and venues to be advised

Congratulations
to Mellery King who has been selected into the State 17s squad, from which the final State 17s team will be chosen in the next week or so.

All members are reminded to check out the Tingara website at www.tingaranetball.com.au.   The website has all the key information that you will need during the season.

As the Club gears up for the start of the new season, we will be looking to our members (as well as their families and friends) to take on the very important roles of coaches and managers of each of our Tingara teams. Any volunteers in these roles will be greatly appreciated by the Club and the players.  Our Senior and Junior Coaching Co-ordinators (Julie Brennan and Kate Collins respectively) will be seeking your support, so please contact them if you are interested.

The Club will be looking to its members to support its umpiring obligations with FNA during the year.  To those members who take on these umpiring duties, we thank you for your efforts.

Please note that Tingara is again looking for new club sponsors for 2012.  With over 250 playing members, the Club website provides enhanced opportunities for sponsorships and advertising.  If there are any family businesses within the Tingara community that may wish to pursue a sponsorship deal, please contact our President, Murray King.

Thanks to all our Club members for your continued support. Best of luck to all junior and senior Tingara teams for 2012  ....... GO TINNIES!

Kindest regards
Tingara Netball Club

Newsletter from Tingara Management Committee (December 2011)

Merry Christmas To All Tingara Members!

We hope you are all enjoying your summer and a break from the netball courts. As we approach the festive season, there are a few pieces of news that may be of interest to our Tingara members.

At the Club AGM held on 30 November 2011, all resolutions were successfully passed (please refer to the Club website for more details). Thanks to all Club members who attended the meeting. [The positions on the Tingara Management Committee that were filled for the 2012 season are listed in the next item on this news page of the Tingara website]

The following 2 positions were not filled and we are still looking for nominees:
1.  2nd Vice President
2.  Senior Grading Co-Ordinator

We are pleased to note that we have received the first order of the new Club uniforms, and they look terrific! Please keep an eye out for emails in January 2012 advising of early bird opportunities to measure up, pay for and collect the new uniform.  The prices are generally less than or equal to those of the old uniform prices.

The registration process for next season will commence as usual early in the New Year.  It is anticipated that the Registration Pack will be emailed to all members in mid January.  The Registration Pack will also be placed on the Club website.  The Club Registration Day is scheduled for Sunday 12 February 2012 from 10am to 12 noon at Brentwood Primary School.  More details will be available in the Registration Pack.

FNA have advised Tingara today that the season playing dates for 2012 are as follows:
  • First Game:  28 April
  • Byes:  on 2 June and 7,14 and 21 July (4 next season instead of 3)
  • Finals:  on 8,15 and 22 September
At the first meeting of the new Management Committee held after the AGM, the Committee reviewed and confirmed the Club’s commitment to its mission statement, which is as follows:

At Tingara Netball Club, we strive to achieve with integrity.

We are a family-orientated club that encourages a love of the game of netball from a very young age. We strive to ensure that all players feel a sense of belonging to a team. Our teams demonstrate the qualities of sportsmanship, commitment and above all have fun on and off the court. Our teams maximise the potential of all players
We recognise and acknowledge the importance of our key stakeholders being the players, parents and the Fremantle Netball Association. We will work closely with each of these stakeholders to ensure that their needs and aspirations are met through close consultation and collaboration

The Committee noted its expectation that Club members/families are to make a contribution to the Club in some capacity.  This can take the form of coaching, managing, helping with special events and also special donations for the purchase of netballs and playing bibs (to match our new uniforms).

As indicated in earlier newsletters, the focus for 2012 will be assisting our players in competing more successfully on the courts.  To this end, we will be pursuing:
  • the early nomination of coaches for teams
  • a slightly revised grading process
  • coaching courses and clinics to all our prospective coaches for 2012.
In placing an emphasis on on-court performance, your Committee is mindful of the key component of the Club mission statement – that is, to strive to achieve with integrity.  The right balance between competition and fun is the Committee’s clear aim.

Please note that Tingara is looking for club sponsors for 2012.  If there are any family businesses within the Tingara community that may wish to pursue a sponsorship deal, please contact a member of the Management Committee.

We are pleased to announce that Tingara now has a Facebook page that is linked to the Club website.  Check out the Facebook page, which is called “Tingara Netball Club”.  The Management Committee hopes the Facebook page will used as a forum for the Tingara community to discuss matches, Club functions and any other netball related matters and news.

Again, best wishes for Christmas and the new year!

Kindest regards
Tingara Netball Club

Hi All Tingara Members.   Welcome to the last newsletter from the 2011 Management Committee.

Grand Finals Held on 24 September 2011 - 4 Pennants and 4 Runners-up!

There was huge excitement and a great turn out of parents and supporters for all Tingara teams at the grand finals. The weather was perfect and the Tingara flags fluttered proudly courtside for all the games.

CONGRATULATIONS to our 4 winning teams - 17(2), 17(4), 17(6) and JA7, who are now proud winners of the premiership medallions and pennants. Our commiserations go to our 19(1), 17(5), 17(9) and JD7 teams who fought valiantly in their respective games. It was a fantastic effort girls and ladies to get to the grand finals!

These results cap off an excellent season by the Tingara Netball Club, whereby we fielded 31 teams, 5 of which were junior teams that did not play finals. Of the remaining 26 teams, 15 played in the finals, 8 played in the grand finals and 4 won their respective pennants.

Junior Wind-up

The junior wind-up for the JH1, JG4, JG2, JF3 and JF1 Tingara teams was held at Tropical Twist on Sunday 11 September 2011.  The players enjoyed the playing facilities of the new wind-up venue and some yummy party food.  The Club President, Murray King, and a number of Committee members were on hand to present trophies, gifts and medals to the various teams and their coaches.  Murray noted the excellent performances of the teams in this junior group and the Club's sound playing future based on the efforts and enthusiasm of these junior players.

Middle Wind-up

The wind-up for the Junior A to E Tingara teams was held at La Porchetta Cafe on Tuesday evening 27 September 2011.  The players and coaches tucked into some tasty Italian pizzas and soft drinks in a vibrant setting in the heart of Fremantle.  Later, the players were joined by a large number of parents for the presentation of trophies and medals to the various teams and their coaches.  Congratulations to Imogen Cook on her winning the Best Junior Club Member Trophy.

Senior Wind-up

The wind-up for the 17s, 19s and senior Tingara teams was held at East Fremantle Yacht Club on Sunday morning 25 September 2011.  The players and coaches, Committee members and life members enjoyed the first class venue and breakfast as a formal slide presentation was given by the Club President followed by the presentation of trophies and medals to the various teams and their coaches.   Highlights of the morning wind-up included the presentation of:
  • the 10 year player awards to:
    • Sarah Adeney
    • Jodi Fisher
    • Emily Hegney
    • Natasha Lade
    • Sarah Patterson
    • Caitlin Reynolds
    • Genevieve Vetten
    • Carla Williams
  • the Gladys Buckingham Trophy to Katrina Connell.  Katrina leaves the Committee at the end of this year after 4 years of excellent service as the Club registrar - well done Katrina - you will be missed!
  • the Pat Marsh Encouragement Trophy to Anna Thornton

Grand Final and Wind-up Photos etc

Please note that a large number of photos from the grand final day and the three Club wind-ups are available at the Photo Gallery 2011 page of the Club website.  Also available on the Club website are a full list of 2011 trophy winners (see the Club Honour Board page) and some more detailed reports of the grand finals played by Tingara teams (see below).

Other News

Congratulations to Mellery King from our 17(2) team, who has been selected in the 2011/12 State 17’s Netball Academy.  Over 300 netballers statewide tried out for the Academy and the final Academy squad of 26 was selected after 5 grueling trials/cuts.  Well done Mellery – a terrific effort!

The display of the new Club uniform for 2012 was greeted with lots of enthusiasm from the players at the three wind-ups.  Details of pricing and the process for buying the new uniforms will be emailed to all Club members in the coming months.

As noted at the wind-ups, the Club is seeking an early start to the engagement of coaches and managers for 2012 season.   Please keep an eye out for emails in this regard in the coming months – these are very important roles for the Club.

Please also keep an eye out for details of the Club AGM, which will be held on Wednesday 30 November 2011.

The Committee would like to thank our Club 1st Vice President, Helen Titheradge, who also leaves the Committee this year after 4 years of fantastic service in a number of capacities.

Finally, the 2011 Tingara Management Committee would like to thank all of its players, members, coaches, managers, umpires and Club supporters for their efforts in 2011 – it has been a very enjoyable season and much has been achieved, on and off the netball court.

Message From Tingara President (June 2011)

Hello all Tingara Members and Parents

We have now nearly completed the 1st round of 5 games of the 2011 season - it has gone quickly! I hope that all Tingara players and their families are enjoying the fine weather and terrific competition at Gibson Park thus far.

There are 2 matters that have come to my attention that I need to address.

Firstly, the Club's newsletter of 18 May discussed, amongst other things, the need to treat our netball umpires with all due respect. Unfortunately, the standards that we aspire to haven't been met.  There have a couple if incidents in the last few weeks in which umpires have been put under undue pressure from parents and spectators. This is just a reminder to all parents and spectators that:

  • You must treat all umpires with the utmost respect. Umpiring is often a tough job and our umpires are young and always trying their best.  Please remember that your comments on the sideline are often heard by the umpires and this does not help with their confidence. We can all become very passionate when our daughters are playing. But believe me, your perspective of umpires will change when your own daughter starts to umpire...
  • Within Tingara, our umpiring co-ordinator Keryn Rae is always available to have a chat to if you have any concerns. Any feedback whatsoever to Keryn is always welcomed. You can contact her on her mobile 0409 030 687 or on her email kmraes@optusnet.com.au. I strongly recommend that, if possible, you wait for at least an hour or 2 if you want to contact Keryn - and let the heat of the battle cool down a bit.
  • If you have a problem with an umpire and, after your appropriate and reasonable consideration, you conclude that biting your tongue or speaking to Keryn is not the last resort, then under FNA rules:
    • you must not approach or communicate in any way with the umpire directly (only the team captain can do this, and only during one of the quarter time break)
    • Clubs are allowed go to FNA and seek their assistance  - but coaches and managers of each team should only do this as a last resort!
  • Please always remember the requirements of the FNA codes of conduct.  For your easy reference, the Code of Conduct relating to parents and spectators is set out in full at the end of this email.

Secondly, FNA has advised all clubs that there have been some incidents involving the verbal abuse of residents who live near Gibson Park whilst "netball people" have been parking their cars on Saturdays.  No particular club has had the finger pointed at them, but it is worthwhile for me to remind all Tingara parents and members of their obligations to be courteous and considerate to all stakeholders (eg residents, FNA officials, car parking attendants, other drivers etc) when parking their cars in the busy Gibson Park area each Saturday.

Thanks and regards

Murray King
President
Tingara Netball Club

FNA Parents’ and Spectators’ Code of Conduct

1. Encourage players to participate if they are interested, do not force them;
2. Encourage players to always participate according to the rules and the umpiring decisions;
3. Focus on the player and teams’ efforts and performance rather than winning and losing;
4. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game;
5. Remember that children learn best from example. Applaud/appreciate good performances and skilful plays by all participants;
6. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the game;
7. Respect officials’ decisions and teach players to do likewise;
8. If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the officials’ judgment and honesty in public;
9. Show appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators;
10. Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using derogatory language, harassing players, coaches or officials or interfering with the progress and /or conduct of a game.
